TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A Taiwanese man surnamed Hong has been compensated NT$200,000 after discovering his wife's infidelity with a colleague surnamed Guo at work in a recent ruling.
The adulterous relationship between Hong's wife and Guo began in 2022. They met online and in an accessible restroom on the e-commerce company's premises.
Motivated by anger and hurt, Hong took legal action against Guo, accusing him of violating his spouse's rights and demanding compensation worth NT$800,000.
Eventually, the court decided in Hong's favor and ruled that Guo must pay NT$200,000 to Hong for the emotional turmoil inflicted on him due to the affair. While this amount was significantly lower than Hong's initial demand of NT$800,000, it is still substantial.
The public's opinions on the matter have been divided. Some have expressed sympathy for Hong's trauma caused by his wife's affair, while others argue that the ruling is unjust, as both parties were responsible for the affair.
Arguments have been raised about whether Hong's wife should also be held accountable for her part in the affair. However, the court's ruling targeted Guo as he was accused of infringing on spousal rights.
This unique case has sparked discussions about the sanctity of marital bonds. The court ruling could be seen as a step toward reshaping the narrative on spousal rights and the responsibilities of the parties involved in cases of infidelity.
