Taiwan to amend gender equality laws as #MeToo moment rise.

TAIWAN (TVBS News) — Different political parties in Taiwan's Legislative Yuan agreed on Monday (June 12) to pass the amendment of the three sexual-gender equality acts before the end of July. The move came in response to increased sexual harassment accusations in the political field, with many high-profile individuals accused of sexual misconduct.

The three bills include the "Act of Gender Equality in Employment," the "Gender Equality Education Act," and the "Sexual Harassment Prevention Act." They target gender equality in employment and education and offer prevention measures and support services for victims of harassment, creating a safer environment and promoting justice.

The "#MeToo" movement, created by Tarana Burke in 2006, which went viral in October 2017, has also played a significant role in raising awareness about the prevalence and severity of sexual harassment in all aspects of society.

The Legislative Yuan's commitment to addressing the issue of sexual harassment is seen as crucial in creating a more inclusive and balanced environment for all citizens. As part of the legislative process, Premier Chen Chien-jen has also been invited to report on the project at the Legislative Yuan.

As Taiwan continues to grapple with the issue of sexual harassment, the revision of the three major laws is expected to be a watershed moment in the fight against this pervasive problem.
