NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi faced intense criticism at a City Council meeting on Wednesday (April 26) following his recent trip to Singapore.
Speculation has mounted that the trip was a precursor to his bid for the 2024 presidential election, and opposition councilors wasted no time pressing the mayor for answers on his plans.
During the meeting, some councilors attempted to goad Hou into revealing his intentions, but the mayor responded with a smile and indirect answers.
Others took a more lighthearted approach, gifting him with helmets, stuffed animals, and even shoe polish in jest at their belief that he plans to leave the council for a presidential position.
Despite the jabs and criticism, Hou remained steadfast in his commitment to serving the people and doing what was best for them.
