TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou departed from Taoyuan International Airport on Monday (April 24) for Europe, where he will deliver talks on geopolitics and address rising cross-strait tensions in the region.
This comes just two weeks after Ma returned to Taiwan from China.
Accompanied by his chief of staff, Ma Ying-jeou Foundation Director Wang Kuang-tzu, and another member from his foundation, Ma was seen preparing to board his flight with a cordial smile, despite media questions about whether the trip was an attempt to assure European countries that all is well in the region.
According to reports, Ma is expected to arrive in Greece on Tuesday (April 25), where he will speak about his recent trip to China at the Delphi Economic Forum.
Against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ma is also expected to address whether Taiwan could become the next Ukraine during a speech on cross-strait relations three days later (April 28), aiming to ease global concerns on the issue.
