TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense detected 70 aircraft and 11 vessels from the Chinese military and coast guards near its waters between 6 a.m. yesterday and 6 a.m. today.
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) has conducted military exercises near Taiwan's waters since Saturday, with several types of aircraft, including unmanned aerial vehicles, early warning aircraft, and warships.
The exercises, which included aircraft crossing the Taiwan Strait and harassing Taiwan's southwest and southeast airspace, will likely continue until today.
Taiwan's military closely monitored and responded to the exercises with its mission aircraft, ships, and shore-based missile systems.
This latest military exercise by the PLA near Taiwan's waters comes as tensions continue to simmer between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, with China claiming Taiwan as part of its territory and Taiwan seeking to maintain its independence.
