TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Council of Agriculture (COA) has decided to stop egg price hikes, despite a shortage of 4.6 million eggs.
The shortage results from various factors, including bird flu, a cold wave, and a lack of chickens.
In January, egg farmers and the COA agreed to raise the price of eggs from NT＄40.5 to NT＄43.5 per catty (600 gr).
However, chicken farmers have expressed their disappointment with the government's decision and have announced plans to protest in Taipei.
COA Minister Chen Chi-chung stated that meetings with egg marketing cooperatives and associations will continue to discuss egg price hikes.
