TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the world faces a shortage of workers, companies are changing the way they hire. Employers are not only looking to hire new talents, but also find suitable candidates among their current staff or hire short-term contractors.
According to foreign media, large corporations, such as Google, are giving priority to suitable candidates already within the company when recruiting. However, scholars warn that this could lead to greater manpower loss in the long run.
Hsin Bing-long, an adjunct associate professor at the Graduate Institute of National Development of National Taiwan Univserity, said: "Whether you are giving them a job with future prospects, a career advancement path that they can see."
"If there is, I believe young people will still want to continue, at this time you ask them to do more things, they will think this is a chance for me to learn, it is a chance to develop career-wise," he added.
"But if they cannot see the bigger picture, and you give them more work, they will think you are exploiting them," he continued.
Scholars are reminding employers that in order to keep talent, they have to get paid in accordance with the work they do, or provide the necessary relevant training for them to advance in their roles.
Enterprises that are willing to invest will likely have stronger development in the long run. And in order to keep companies competitive in the market, having quality talent at the company will be key to its success.
