TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In order to attract high-level foreign professionals, Taiwan began to issue Employment Gold Cards in 2018, and the number of issued cards has grown significantly in recent years, according to official data.
Combining the functions of a work permit, residence visa, and multi-entry permit, the number of issuances has soared rapidly over the past three years.
According to the statistics of the National Development Council, nearly 2,424 cards were issued as of November 2022, up from nearly 2,000 in 2021 and 1,399 issued in 2020.
"The Employment Gold Card has one of the biggest benefits. The biggest advantage is that they can repeatedly enter and exit, be exempt from restrictions for three or six months. Our goal is to attract more talent, this Employment Gold Card has become a convenient card for them," said Chen Rui-chu, a labor expert.
As Taiwan is one of the leading countries in the world when it comes to a declining birth rate, recruiting global talent to join our workforce is an issue that needs to be tackled head on.
