TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The legal age of adulthood in Taiwan was lowered to 18 years old from 20 years old on Jan. 1, meaning that 440,000 teenagers became legal adults overnight thanks to the law adjustment.

The other good news is that they can open their own bank account without their parents' concent. They can apply for credit cards and debit cards, too, and work as insurance salesmen.

Some teenagers are for the new financial benefits, however, some expressed worries about not being able to pay their bills.

"I don't seem to have enough financial concepts," one 18-year-old said. "I think it is a bit scary."
