TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former NBA star Dwight Howard has joined Taiwanese basketball team Taoyuan Leopards, the team announced on Tuesday (Nov. 8).
The 36-year-old center announced the deal in a Facebook video posted on the Taoyuan Leopards Facebook page. "I am so so excited, and I can't wait to touch down in Taiwan and start playing," Howard said to his fans.
In his 18-year NBA career, Howard was an eight-time NBA All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year. Howard also won a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. Taoyuan Leopards general manager Brett Su said he hopes Taiwan's basketball development can be brought to new heights with Howard joining the league.
Howard's first game with the Leopards will be on Nov. 19 against New Taipei CTBC DEA.
