Taiwan‘s TPP demands halt to Chinese military drills (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) strongly condemned China's military exercises, dubbed "Joint Sword-2024A," around Taiwan on Thursday (May 23).
The party labeled the maneuvers as military harassment that undermines the stability of the Taiwan Strait and only serves to distance cross-strait relations further, calling on the Chinese Communist Party to halt actions that jeopardize the stability of the Taiwan Strait.
The TPP's denouncement came after the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) announced on the same day the commencement of military drills around Taiwan, sparking a vehement response from Taiwan.
The party also mentioned the aggressive stance taken by President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) in his inauguration speech, anticipating a fierce reaction from China and further questioned whether the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government had prepared any strategies to address this situation and demanded that these plans be communicated to the public.
Emphasizing the need for a mature societal response, the TPP advocated for the spirit of a "resilient society" to face challenges. The party underscored the importance of mutual recognition, understanding, respect, cooperation, and forgiveness to reduce hostility and foster a peaceful cross-strait environment.
As tensions rise, the TPP's call for peace and stability highlights the critical need for dialogue and understanding in navigating the complex dynamics of cross-strait relations.
