TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President-elect Lai Ching-te announced Wednesday that Cho Jung-tai, former chair of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), will become the new premier.

As Lai prepares to take office on May 20, he set forth three expectations for Cho: to lead an "Active and Innovative Cabinet" (nicknamed "AI Cabinet"), focus on bipartisan, nation-benefiting issues, and initiate the National Project of Hope.

During a morning press conference, Lai stated, “Taiwan needs a proactive and innovative team to convert challenges into opportunities, propelling the nation forward amid global competition.”

He praised Cho as a "good comrade," having worked closely within the Legislative Yuan, the Executive Yuan, and as successive DPP chairs, sharing values and mutual trust.

Cho, mirroring Lai's sentiment, emphasized, "We will leverage technological, service, and digital innovation to enhance government efficiency and transform Taiwan into a smart technology island." He also mentioned ongoing consultations with future cabinet members and committed to regular public updates.

Further appointments include Cheng Li-chiun as Deputy Premier, Kung Ming-hsin as Executive Yuan Secretary-General, and Chen Shih-kai as Executive Yuan spokesperson.
