TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed on Wednesday (May 22) its appreciation for the United States' continued efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, in collaboration with like-minded countries. The ministry noted that the international community's concern over the situation in the Taiwan Strait has become a consensus.
The statement was in response to a news release issued by the U.S. State Department on May 21, Eastern Time. The release stated that U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and Riccardo Guariglia, Director General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the United States - Italy Consultation on the Indo-Pacific in Washington, D.C., where they discussed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also emphasized in a congressional hearing the U.S.' commitment to working with countries worldwide to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and to prevent China from unilaterally altering the status quo.
MOFA thanked the U.S. for its continued efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait in collaboration with like-minded countries. The ministry pledged to continue its collaboration with the U.S. on the solid foundation already established between Taiwan and the U.S., to jointly safeguard peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
