TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Rosalia Wu on Friday (March 29) questioned the Legislative Yuan's responsibility if Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) collapses, emphasizing that the DPP will prioritize people's livelihoods.

The Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) caucus have jointly proposed to freeze electricity price hikes, which has been included in the Legislative Yuan's meeting agenda for discussion. This comes as the Ministry of Economic Affairs has decided to increase electricity prices by an average of 11% starting April 1.

In response, the DPP caucus has decided to counteract by pulling the proposal for cross-party negotiations, which would require a one-month suspension period if submitted for consultation.

On March 26, the KMT caucus proposed in the Procedure Committee that the Legislative Yuan resolve on March 29 to immediately halt the electricity price hike. They also demanded that the Executive Yuan instruct relevant departments to review the current energy policy immediately.

Wu stated that the DPP would pull the proposal for consultation, hoping that through the negotiation process, the unreasonable proposals and constitutionally overstepping proposals from the KMT and the TPP would receive more discussion.
