TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A proposal to discuss food safety reports in cross-party talks was put forth in a legislative session by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) caucus on Tuesday (Feb. 20) as a consensus on this report remains elusive.
Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu thus ruled to engage in negotiations on Feb. 23.
The legislative session, convened today, invited Premier Chen Chien-jen to present his implementation report and prepare for questioning.
Both the Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) caucuses agreed to hold an extra session tomorrow to undertake special reports on food safety. The motion was initiated by the TPP caucus.
Originally, the KMT caucus also proposed special reports on food safety, but because the TPP caucus proposed a related motion, KMT decided to withdraw their proposal, prioritizing unity among opposition forces to oversee the DPP's actions.
After expressing her stance to Fu Kun-chi, the KMT caucus whip, and Hung Mong-kai, secretary-general of the caucus, Huang Shan-shan, the deputy whip of the TPP caucus, had her motion unanimously approved. Consequently, an extra legislative meeting will be held to discuss food safety issues.
Despite the TPP caucus' proposal successfully entering the agenda, it may be handed over for bipartisan negotiations due to the suggestion by the DPP caucus.
Until these negotiations, scheduled for Feb. 23 as ruled by Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu, there will be no shared agreement on the food safety report.
