TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Chen Chien-jen said Friday (March 15) that Taiwan has consistently extended goodwill in cross-strait exchanges and is prepared to enter into peaceful democratic talks on an equal footing.
The Legislative Yuan continued its general policy interpellation Friday, with Lin Te-fu, a lawmaker from the Kuomintang (KMT), expressing concern about cross-strait relations and calling for peaceful dialogue between the two sides.
Lin pointed out tensions in cross-strait relations, breaks in official communication channels, and standstills in the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA). The last meeting occurred in 2015, suggesting that there have been no exchanges on economic cooperation between the two sides for nine years.
In response, Premier Chen indicated that recent economic developments in Taiwan have been quite notable, with the market expanding into New Southbound countries, as well as Western and East Asian nations. He stressed that the focus should be on Taiwan's current position and future potential for growth and prosperity.
