TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) warned of sharp temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius starting Wednesday (March 13) into early Thursday (March 14).

On Wednesday, as a cold front from mainland China moves in, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius in northern and eastern regions of Taiwan.

Meteorologist Peng Chi-ming noted the lowest morning temperature in Touwu Township, Miaoli, at a freezing 5.5 degrees Celsius.

The CWA issued an "orange" cold surge advisory for Miaoli on Wednesday morning, indicating possibilities of local areas experiencing temperatures below 6 degrees Celsius. New Taipei City, Hsinchu County, Yunlin County, Yilan County, and Kinmen County have each received a yellow warning, suggesting temperatures may drop to 10 degrees or below.

The CWA predicted scattered showers in the eastern part of the country, Hengchun Peninsula, and southern mountainous areas.

Temperatures in central and northern regions, such as Yilan and Hualien, are forecasted to range from 11 to 15 degrees on Wednesday. In comparison, southern Taiwan and Taitung will see lows of 17 to 19 degrees. A maximum of 24 to 27 degrees is expected in the central and southern parts.

Strong northeast winds are anticipated in coastal and open areas from Taoyuan to Tainan, Taitung (including Orchid Island and Green Island), Hengchun Peninsula, Penghu, and Kinmen, peaking at a force of eight to nine on the Beaufort scale.
