MOE: 19 Taiwan’s universities below 60% registration rate (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Education (MOE) disclosed the first-year student registration rates at tertiary institutions for the 2023-2024 academic year on Thursday (Dec. 28).
Out of 29 universities, 10 achieved a 100% registration rate, while 19 fell short of 60%. As of the end of 2023, 112 universities reported at least one department with zero new student registrations.
Among other highlights, National Taiwan University (NTU) had five such departments, including Drama and Theater, Geography, Institute of Oceanography, Plant Pathology and Microbiology, and the Doctoral Program in Microbiology.
Other institutions, such as National Tsing Hua University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Cheng Kung University, and National Chengchi University, also had departments with zero registrations.
Kao Yuan University had the lowest new student registration rate for this academic year, at just 15.7%. The National Taitung Junior College, with a registration rate below 60%, was the only national institution falling short this year.
