TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on Tuesday (Dec. 19) that the island's media freedom has led to a growing foreign media presence, with 82 international media organizations and 174 foreign journalists now stationed in Taiwan.

During a MOFA press briefing, Nikkei Asia inquired about the government's support for foreign correspondents in Taiwan.

MOFA spokesman Jeff Liu emphasized Taiwan's open and free society as the main draw for journalists, citing a Freedom House report that ranked Taiwan sixth in internet freedom among 70 surveyed countries.

Liu highlighted Taiwan's freedom of press, transparent information flow, rule of law, and strategic location in the Indo-Pacific as factors attracting international media.

He affirmed Taiwan's welcome to foreign media and commitment to assisting with entry, residency, and work-related matters.
