TSMC to expand globally, retain roots in Taiwan: Hsiao (TVBS News)
HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Hsiao Bi-khim, the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) vice-presidential candidate, expressed hope on on Monday (Dec. 11) that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) would remain rooted in Taiwan while also expanding into trusted partner countries.
Speaking to the media during a visit to the TSMC Museum of Innovation, she explained that TSMC's global expansion efforts have raised concerns about potential talent and technology outflow, fueling fears of becoming too "Americanized."
Responding to these concerns, Hsiao stressed that the first 'T' in TSMC signifies 'Taiwan,' reaffirming its commitment to Taiwan and emphasizing strategic partnerships with trusted countries.
Drawing on her experience in the United States, Hsiao highlighted her efforts to prevent double taxation agreements, which she believes benefit Taiwan's global talent and industries.
She also discussed her role in TSMC's establishment in the United States, underscoring the advantages of such tax agreements for global operations.
Hsiao's visit and comments coincide with TSMC's international strategies facing scrutiny as the leading semiconductor company navigates the complex geopolitical landscape while maintaining its competitive edge.
