TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je on Thursday (Dec. 7) criticized that a return to the clash between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) would result in a victory for the DPP.

Ko's comments came during an agriculture policy press conference amid rising support for KMT presidential and vice-presidential candidates Hou Yu-ih and Jaw Shaw-kong in various polls.

When asked about his views on the KMT potentially employing strategic voting, Ko sharply remarked that the only strategy left for the KMT was to encourage vote abandonment for other parties. He then questioned, "But does Taiwan really want to revert to a polarized political axis?"

Citing statistics, Ko pointed out that 60% of the population supports maintaining the status quo, with 30% leaning towards Taiwan independence and a mere 10% inclined towards unification with China.

Ko appealed to the youth demographic in particular to consider whether they wanted to remain trapped in the past political vortex defined by the blue-green divide or move towards a new political and cultural era.
