KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — The largest Don Quijote flagship store in Taiwan opened its doors in Kaohsiung on Thursday (Dec. 7), marking the brand's first foray into the southern region and establishing the largest outlet on the island.
Excitement was palpable outside the Dalee Department Store on Don Don Donki Kaohsiung Dalee's opening day as a crowd of more than 600 people began queuing up at 8 a.m.
Following a NT$1 billion, five-year renovation that recently introduced Tsutaya Bookstore, the department store has attracted two major Japanese brands, Muji and Don Quijote, to set up their largest Taiwanese establishments.
Spanning an impressive area of nearly 1,000 ping, the Don Quijote store at the Kaohsiung Dalee location features three distinctive zones catering to diverse shopping desires: an Outdoor section for camping and trekking gear, the Donki Sake area for Japanese alcohol enthusiasts, and the Coco Kawaii section for all things cute and adorable. Moreover, the location offers a selection of ready-to-eat food restaurants.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-Mai attended the opening and officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Chen expressed astonishment at the turnout and lauded the decision of these two popular Japanese brands to invest in Kaohsiung, signifying strong confidence in the local consumer market and economic development.
With this latest opening, Don Quijote now operates five stores across Taiwan, further solidifying its presence in the island's retail landscape.
