KMT Chairman Chu predicts major gains in legislative seats (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu expressed optimism on Saturday (Dec. 9) that the Hou-Jaw ticket's nomination has boosted party morale, projecting a gain of over ten legislative constituencies for the party.
In an interview with TVBS, Chu estimated that the KMT is likely to secure 14 to 15 legislator-at-large seats, ensuring an absolute majority in the Legislative Yuan.
Chu highlighted the KMT's strength in the Taipei–Keelung area, an advantage in the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli area, and potential progress in southern regions, including Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung.
Chu noted that Taoyuan, led by Mayor Chang San-cheng, is poised for success, with three KMT legislators and strong performance in six districts. He expected Chang's presence in the race to boost legislative election outcomes.
In Taipei's 4th election district, former legislator Li Yen-hsiu enjoys strong support and is likely to return to Congress. Chu also had high hopes for City Councilor Li Mei-jhen to secure a legislative seat in the traditionally challenging city of Kaohsiung.
Regarding criticism of numerous second-generation officials on the KMT legislator-at-large list, Chu defended their selection, citing their significant contributions to the public and their professions.
