KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai voiced confidence on Thursday (Dec. 7) in the relative stability of the legislative and presidential election outlook for Kaohsiung, noting that the situation is largely in line with initial expectations.
Chen highlighted Kaohsiung's status as a southern industrial city undergoing economic transformation, requiring cooperative efforts between central and local governments, and the legislature to foster large-scale infrastructure and urban economic development.
The mayor called on candidates to bolster trust among the electorate, saying, "We will focus on providing newcomers with increased opportunities to interact with the public, putting forward positive visions and policies."
Chen pointed out Democratic Progressive Party candidates would propose various policies aimed at developing Kaohsiung and stabilizing Taiwan as a means to garner public support.
Chen underscored the importance of humility before public sentiment for all political parties, emphasizing the need for introspection where shortcomings are evident and continued diligence in areas of success.
"Every political party must be more humble before public opinion, to reflect on what has not been done well and to keep working hard where they have done well," he said.
