Impact of Typhoon Koinu to gradually weaken by Friday (CWA)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Koinu was moving slowly westward into the waters near the west of Pingtung on Thursday (Oct. 5) afternoon, with significant increases in wind and rain expected in Pingtung, Kaohsiung, and southern Tainan.
According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), the typhoon center was near Cape Eluanbi earlier that day, moving west-northwest at 10 kilometers per hour.
The latest forecast map from the CWA indicates that the effects of Typhoon Koinu will gradually weaken by Friday.
Meteorological expert Wu De-rong expects the weather to slightly improve as the typhoon moves away from Saturday to Monday, with a chance of local heavy afternoon rainfall expected.
Wu warned of two developing tropical disturbances that could impact Taiwan during the Double Tenth's national holiday.
Wu expects a tropical disturbance located east of Luzon Island in the Philippines could bring heavy rain by next Tuesday, with northern Taiwan facing a high probability of rainfall.
