TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih vowed on Tuesday (Oct. 3) to begin the construction of the Taoyuan Metro Brown Line within one year if elected.
Speaking at a rally in Guishan District, Taoyuan City, Hou criticized former Taoyuan mayor Cheng Wen-tsan for failing to meet his 2022 construction commencement pledge.
Taoyuan Mayor Simon Chang echoed Hou's criticism, noting that residents have waited eight years for the promised Metro system due to Cheng's failed promise. The mayor called for support for Hou to change the current predicament.
Once completed, the Taoyuan Metro Brown Line will benefit approximately 68,000 residents along the route. The line will provide a convenient 18-minute link from Xinzhuang District, through Guishan to Taoyuan, arriving at MRT Huilong Station.
From there, passengers can transfer to the Zhonghe-Xinlu and Wanda–Zhonghe–Shulin lines, connecting them to northern Taiwan.
