SAN FRANCISCO (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih concluded his U.S. trip in San Francisco on Wednesday (Sept. 20) aimed at providing a thorough understanding of his cross-strait policies and ensuring "peace in the Taiwan Strait, and security in Taiwan."

Before attending his final banquet with overseas Taiwanese, Hou reaffirmed Taiwan's commitment to be a "responsible stakeholder as an important member of the Indo-Pacific region."

"I will lead Taiwan to be a 'peace promoter' and 'risk reducer,' to ensure Taiwan Strait stability and Taiwan's safety, reassuring the global community," he said.

Hou further refuted assertions from the media that some congress members perceived the "1992 consensus" outdated, saying, "Almost all of the congress members I met asked about the Taiwan Strait."

"They sought insights into how the future president plans to fulfill this role by ensuring stability in the Taiwan Strait," Hou noted, "And how Taiwan intends to safeguard its security, especially along the Indo-Pacific coastlines."

Without responding to how he would rate his trip, Hou declared his intention to strengthen Taiwan-U.S. relations. His eight-day U.S. visit ended on Wednesday, and he is scheduled to return to Taiwan early Thursday morning Eastern Time.
