Five new dengue fever deaths reported in Tainan (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan CDC announced on Tuesday (Oct. 3) that five new dengue fever-related fatalities occurred last week in Tainan.
The deceased included a woman in her twenties, the youngest case this year, who had underlying health conditions and passed away within ten days of falling ill.
The CDC data shows the age range of fatalities due to dengue fever has spread from the twenties to the eighties, with all having underlying conditions.
Last week alone saw the addition of 2,542 domestic cases, most of which were in Tainan City (2,309), Kaohsiung City (145), and Yunlin County (31). This surge in cases has surpassed the previous week's tally, indicating another peak in the epidemic.
By Monday, the cumulative number of domestic dengue fever cases this year had reached 13,036.
The CDC urges those infected with dengue fever, the elderly, and high-risk groups to remain vigilant for signs of severe symptoms and bleeding.
