KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — The Kaohsiung City government is working hard to rid parks of poisonous wild mushrooms after they began popping up following days of torrential rain, according to reports.

Local authorities said earlier this week that the mushrooms appeared suddenly in the humid weather. Officials believe the fungi are likely "green-spored parasol mushrooms," though further confirmation is needed.

Kaohsiung City government's Parks Office Chief Secretary Lee Cheng-ying has since warned the general public, urging them not to touch or forage the mushrooms. At the same time, authorities hurry to pluck them out.

Though the mushrooms are not deadly, accidental ingestion could lead to severe vomiting or diarrhea.

As the mushrooms are easily mistaken for those commonly found in local dishes, officials continue to plead caution among locals.
