TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As Taiwan readies for the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday starting Friday (Sept. 29), the nation might also have to contend with the onslaught of rainfall and possible typhoon.

Rain is forecasted from Oct. 1-2, perhaps extending for five consecutive days, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

Over the weekend, increased moisture around the island might lead to showers in some regions, alongside potential brief thunderstorms elsewhere.

Monday will witness the strengthening of the northeast monsoon, lowering temperatures in the northern and northeastern regions.

Occasional rainfall can be expected north of Taoyuan, the eastern half of the island, and the Hengchun Peninsula, while other regions might remain cloudy to sunny but with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Indicating a 70% chance of a tropical disturbance developing into a typhoon off Taiwan's southwest coast around 8 p.m., Oct. 4, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reveals high chances of a typhoon forming near Taiwan.

Meteorological expert Wu Der-rong pointed out in his article that the possibility of a typhoon forming will peak on Oct. 6, potentially transferring to the Bashi Channel near Taiwan. However, with several variables still at play, the public is advised to remain vigilant.
