TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A spokesperson for the Kuomintang party criticized on Saturday (July 29) the presidential candidate of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Facebook. The spokesperson claimed that electing the DPP candidate would be equivalent to supporting the current president's policies.
The DPP candidate has promised to strengthen existing policies and introduce childcare plans. However, some are questioning the sincerity of these promises. The Kuomintang spokesperson criticized the DPP candidate's proposed policies and called for an apology for social unrest caused during the DPP's previous years in power.
Earlier that day, the DPP candidate, Lai, pledged to reinforce existing policies and promote the "Long-Term Care Plan 3.0" and "State to Co-raise 2.0 Plan" for children aged 0 to 6 if elected. Lai also promised to respect and build upon President Tsai's existing childcare policies for children aged 0 to 22.
However, the Kuomintang spokesperson, Liu, questioned Lai's sincerity and accused the DPP of unjustly attacking kindergartens and childcare workers. Liu called for Lai to apologize for the spread of lies and rumors by fellow DPP members.
Liu criticized Lai's proposed policies as simply continuing President Tsai's policies and emphasized that if the DPP's previous eight years in power have caused social unrest, Lai should address the issue and apologize instead of continuing to promote Tsai's policies.
