TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foxconn founder Terry Gou visited the Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation and Binjiang Market on Wednesday (July 19) to gain insights into Taiwan's agriculture and fishing industries.

The vendors in Binjiang Market happily presented their products to Gou, while he showed keen interest in purchasing various fruits and vegetables. An aide revealed that Gou had no budgetary limitations during his market visit and intended to distribute the purchased fruits and vegetables among many employees.

Gou emphasized that there is much room for improvement regarding the government's support for the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen. He argued that more than current subsidies are needed to facilitate a stable market mechanism. He urged the government to assume a regulatory role rather than continually imposing price limits on the farmers.

In recent years, Gou has become more vocal about political issues, making attempts to seek the Kuomintang (KMT) presidential nomination in 2020 and 2023. However, both bids failed.

Gou stressed that he visited local markets out of his genuine care for the Taiwanese people's lives. However, speculations about Gou's intention to run as an independent candidate are growing, particularly given that the KMT's official candidate, New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih, has been struggling in the polls.
