TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen announced Wednesday (June 21) a 4% increase in salary for armed forces starting next year. The president also reiterated the government's commitment to enhance soldiers' living conditions and upgrade their equipment, pledging unwavering support as the strongest force bolstering the nation's military officers.
The announcement was made during a joint graduation ceremony held at the Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, National Defense University, National Defense Medical Center, and Air Force Institute of Technology in Beitou earlier in the day.
In her address, President Tsai expressed that the government will continue to provide increased support and care for officers to ensure national security. This will be achieved by strengthening military capabilities and pursuing full autonomy in national defense.
She acknowledged the prevailing global uncertainty and volatility, urging graduates to embrace the principles of composure, rationality, and non-provocation when confronted with threats and challenges.
President Tsai further highlighted the recent training exercise conducted by a group of female reservists as an impressive demonstration of the reformed defense capabilities. She also referenced the Tsai government's earlier proposal this year to adjust the structure of the national defense force.
Before this recent announcement, the Tsai government had disclosed a 15% increment in the police duty allowance, effective July 1, and an increase in meal stipends for students at Taiwan Police College last month.
