TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an responded to concerns from city councilors and pledged to create more social housing units for small families in Taipei on Tuesday (June 6).

During the council meeting, City Councilor Sabrina Lim criticized Chiang's proposal to prioritize nuclear families with two children, pointing out that acceptance rates remained low, causing delays in housing for those in need.

Lim drew parallels between acceptance rates for law school in California and social housing in Taipei, both ranging from 6% to 10%. While acknowledging variations across districts, she questioned the mayor's actions in resolving the current issues.

In response, Chiang acknowledged receiving feedback from families facing similar challenges. He expressed optimism, emphasizing that offering opportunities to relocate them into social housing complexes is a crucial first step in addressing the issue.

Chiang recognized that the limited number of households provided thus far contributed to the problem. However, he reassured that the city government is gradually expanding its housing inventory and increasing the number of available homes.

Chiang concluded by affirming their commitment to improving the living conditions of small families in the long run and facilitating more efficient access to social housing units.
