NEW YORK (TVBS News) — Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen received the Hudson Institute's Global Leadership Award for defending democracy on March 30 (Thursday) in New York.
In her speech after receiving the award, Tsai emphasis on defending democracy.
"The very conditions that enable so much freedom and prosperity are actually at risk, not just for Taiwan but for countries the world over," she said.
Tsai also explained that the CCP deliberately escalated the tension, but Taiwan has always responded cautiously and calmly, according to Chang Tun-han.
He said that the president also stated that the best way to avoid war is to strengthen ourselves and called for assistance in helping Taiwan to participate in international organizations.
While many speculated that former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Tsai would meet at the event, Pompeo could not attend that day.
