Taiwanese Buddhist monk Hsing Yun passes away at 95

KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwanese Buddhist monk and founder of Fo Guang Shan, Hsing Yun, passed away on Sunday at 95. 

Throughout his career, Venerable Master Hsing Yun was known for his political involvement, meeting with politicians from various countries and political parties, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and former President Hu Jintao. 

Despite criticism for his political involvement, Hsing Yun's followers emphasized his dedication to society. The "political monk" certainly believed in his ability to bring about change.

Fo Guang Shan is a prominent Buddhist organization and temple located in Taiwan. Founded in 1967 by Hsing Yun, the temple is dedicated to promoting humanistic Buddhism, which aims to bring Buddhist teachings and practices into daily life. 

Fo Guang Shan has established branches in over 40 countries worldwide, including the United States, Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia, with a mission to spread Buddhism's teachings and promote peace and cultural understanding. 

The organization is also involved in various charitable and cultural initiatives, including disaster relief, education, and environmental protection. 

Fo Guang Shan continues to lead in promoting Buddhism and its values in Taiwan and internationally.
