Taipei City mayor hopefuls confident in election outcome

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Around 19 million people are eligible to vote in Taiwan. In 2018, the participation rate in the local elections was nearly 67%, meaning voters always look forward to casting their ballots.

Taipei election hopefuls from Taiwan's three main political parties, the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), the opposition Kuomintang (KMT), and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), also said they are confident about the participation rate this year despite the rainy weather.

KMT mayoral candidate Chiang Wang-an was in a soft mood after casting his ballots in Taipei. "I feel very relaxed now. I also want to thank everyone who accompanied us in the final pre-election night event yesterday in the wind and rain," he said.

Independent candidate Huang Shan-shan went to the polling station with her mom. "Just taking it easy. Today I am just happily waiting for the results," she added.

Ruling DPP mayoral candidate Chen Shih-chung was also in a "relaxed mood" when he told reporters: "I think everyone worked hard, and everything has come to an end, so I came to vote with a light heart."
