TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of the Interior (內政部) announced on Friday (Dec. 26) that the National Police Agency (警政署) will mobilize 8,069 police officers and 2,792 civilian forces to ensure safety during New Year's Eve and New Year's Day events. This decision follows recent random attacks at Taipei Main Station and Zhongshan Station, which resulted in four deaths and 11 injuries.
The National Police Agency has instructed local police departments to conduct on-site inspections and deploy special police forces ahead of the festivities. These measures aim to maintain security throughout the events, emphasizing the importance of proactive safety strategies in light of recent incidents.
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (交通部) plans to enhance security measures nationwide across land, sea, and air transport, as well as at tourist sites. Officials will increase patrol frequency to ensure public transportation safety, reinforcing their commitment to passenger security.
Transportation hubs will intensify surveillance system inspections and fire equipment checks. Authorities will promptly initiate response and reporting procedures if they detect any irregularities, ensuring swift action to mitigate potential threats.
