TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecasted the arrival of this winter's first cold air mass on Saturday (Dec. 13) evening, urging residents to brace for a significant temperature drop. The cold front will be most pronounced from the morning of Dec. 14 to 15, with temperatures in lowland areas potentially dipping below 10 degrees Celsius.
The CWA indicated increased moisture on Saturday, predicting heavy rainfall along the north coast, Yilan, and the greater Taipei mountain area. On Dec. 13, Hsinchu and Miaoli will experience sporadic rain in the Chiayi mountain areas, while the cold air mass is expected to intensify on Dec. 14, bringing chilly conditions to the north and east. The south will remain relatively stable, though with significant temperature fluctuations between morning and night.
Also, CWA announced that the coldest period will occur on Dec. 15 morning, influenced by the northeast monsoon. The administration elaborated that the possibility of icy roads or isolated snowfall in areas above 3,500 meters in the central and northern regions from late Dec. 13. night to Dec 14. The administration advised residents to prepare winter clothing and exercise caution regarding coastal waves and icy mountain roads.
