TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market closed up 69.3 points at 26,504.24 Monday (Nov. 24), marking a modest 0.26% gain with substantial trading volume reaching NT$713.013 billion (around US$22.7 billion). The weighted index experienced significant high volatility, fluctuating dramatically from a session low of 26,482.33 to a high of 26,764.13 during the trading session. The non-financial index rose 18.94 points to 23,354.17 amid mixed sector performance across various market categories.

The plastics sector led substantial gains among eight major market categories, surging 2.42%, followed by cement stocks rising 2.37% and financial stocks gaining 1.98%. Investors placed 22,338,577 buy orders against 12,349,696 sell orders, with 9,069,346 shares changing hands during the active trading session. Market breadth showed positive sentiment with 718 stocks rising, 268 falling, and 96 remaining unchanged at closing.

 

AUO (友達), Acer (宏碁), Winbond (華邦電), Powerchip (力積電), and Nanya Technology (南亞科) topped the transaction volume leaderboard among active stocks. Caliway Biopharmaceuticals (康霈), Goldkey (凌航), Shinkong Textile (新紡), Kuangli Bio-Tech Holdings (光麗-KY), and Universal Microelectronics (環科) led substantial percentage gains. These individual stocks dominated trading activity and significant price movements during the volatile session.

TRK Corporation (大魯閣), Run Long Construction (潤隆), Shinfox Energy (森崴能源), HiTi Digital (誠研), and Lelon Electronics (立隆電) were the session's top declining stocks. The market fluctuated nearly 282 points throughout the volatile day, with major Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) and Foxconn (鴻海) dropping at close. The latest MSCI weight adjustment took effect, resulting in a massive NT$285.566 billion (around US$9.1 billion) transaction in the final trade.

 
Electronics dominated trading with 79.8% of volume but the electronics index ended 0.22% lower despite heavy activity. The financial sector saw a 1.98% rise, contrasting sharply with the electronics sector's decline. TSMC finished at NT$1,375 (around US$43.79), down NT$10 or 0.72%, while Foxconn closed at NT$220 (around US$7.01), declining 2.22%. Nanya Technology closed at NT$143 (around US$4.55), up 2.14%, and Winbond rebounded 4.6%. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.4)
