TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Health and Welfare's Fengyuan Hospital (衛生福利部豐原醫院) launched a new integrated long-term care facility in Taichung City's Houli District (后里區) on Monday (Nov. 24). Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) attended the opening ceremony, highlighting the government's commitment to advancing long-term care services in Taiwan.
Cho announced that the Long-term Care 3.0 initiative will commence in 2026, contingent on the approval of the central government's budget proposal. This plan aims to increase subsidies for residents from NT$120,000 to NT$180,000 per month. He emphasized that, as Taiwan is on the verge of becoming a super-aged society, it necessitates enhanced long-term care efforts.
The government has secured land for the Houli branch of Fengyuan Hospital, aiming to complete it by 2027 to boost medical capacity in the Greater Taichung area. The Long-term Care 2.0 policy has expanded funding from NT$4.95 billion to NT$92.6 billion over the past decade and increased the number of service personnel from approximately 25,000 to about 100,000. Service locations also grew from 720 to 15,051, meeting the needs of many families and earning high public satisfaction.
Cho outlined the goals of Long-term Care 3.0, focusing on health promotion, integration of medical care, and workforce development, among others. He expressed hope that the Houli facility will integrate local tourism and corporate resources, attracting families and the elderly. Collaborating with the Central Taiwan Science Park's Houli campus (中部科學園區后里園區), the facility aims to enhance local employment opportunities and serve as a hub for regional development and industry cooperation.
