TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced Monday (Nov. 17) that the Executive Yuan, Taiwan's cabinet, will counter the Legislative Yuan's, Taiwan's parliament, passage of the revenue allocation law adopted by the opposition the Kuomintang's (KMT, 國民黨). The cabinet plans to pass its own version Thursday (Nov. 20) after consulting local governments.
Cho criticized the Legislative Yuan for hastily approving the revised law Friday (Nov. 14), warning it creates bigger problems than previous calculation errors. The premier stated the law prevents effective government budget allocation. The KMT's version mistakenly reduced tax allocations for several counties, prompting complaints from KMT-affiliated mayors.
The Executive Yuan aims to address discrepancies by advocating for a more balanced law to reduce urban-rural disparities. Cho expressed hope for a more equitable solution while engaging with opposition actions. Officials will meet with local government financial officers Tuesday to finalize their proposal. ◼
