TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨), Taiwan's ruling party, has named legislator Su Chiao-hui (蘇巧慧) as its candidate for the 2026 New Taipei mayoral election. Su highlighted her youth and creativity as advantages over Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) rival Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) during a Friday (Nov. 21) radio interview.
Su declared she will focus on her vision for New Taipei City rather than concentrate on opponents. She denied rumors that she encouraged Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) to stay in the race, dismissing the speculation as "strange." Su emphasized voter recognition as her priority.
Su acknowledged the significant challenge of competing against the KMT, which has controlled New Taipei City for 21 years. She emphasized the need to gain majority support and strengthen the DPP coalition, often referred to as the "green camp" in Taiwan politics.
