TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's opposition Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) leaders held a summit Wednesday (Nov. 19). The parties strengthened their blue-white alliance under the slogan "Protect Taiwan with Action" for next year's elections. The high-profile meeting took place at Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang (新莊凱悅嘉軒酒店).
KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) emphasized urgency in solidifying the blue-white alliance for comprehensive electoral victory. She declared cooperation necessity unchanged despite party chair election delays. Both parties gained significant Legislative Yuan (立法院), Taiwan's parliament, collaboration experience over the past year.
The one-hour summit concluded with a 20-minute joint press conference where both leaders addressed media. KMT presented TPP a Taiwan blue magpie ceramic piece symbolizing "Blue and White Togetherness". TPP reciprocated with a cement tungsten lamp representing joint efforts to illuminate Taiwan during uncertainty.
Cheng underscored collaboration importance for Taiwan's society and expressed hope for demonstrating sincerity and goodwill. She believes the alliance will become Taiwan's new mainstream sentiment. Cheng thanked both parties for parliamentary reform dedication and hopes for international recognition of policy advancement. ◼
