TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Legislative Yuan (立法院), Taiwan's parliament, conducted a crucial vote Friday (Nov. 7) on National Communications Commission (NCC, 國家通訊傳播委員會) nominees. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) supported all four nominees while opposition Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) opposed them.

Taiwan's Executive Yuan (行政院), Taiwan's cabinet, nominated the four NCC commissioners in July. National Cheng Kung University (NCKU, 成功大學) Professor Chiang Jung-hsien (蔣榮先) was appointed chairperson and Soochow University (東吳大學) Professor Cherng Ming-shiou (程明修) as vice chairperson. The nominees include National Chengchi University (政治大學) Professor Huang Wei-wei (黃葳威) and Shih Hsin University (世新大學) Assistant Professor Lo Hui-wen (羅慧雯).

DPP legislator Chung Chia-pin (鍾佳濱) stated his party unanimously supports the nominees and urges professional review without political interference. KMT caucus secretary-general Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) declared unanimous opposition, suggesting DPP consultation with opposition parties for NCC independence. TPP caucus whip Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) criticized Premier Chuo Jung-tai (卓榮泰) for treating NCC as patronage agency, confirming TPP opposition. ◼
