TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Enoch Wu (吳怡農) confirmed his interest in running for Taipei office Thursday (Oct. 2), becoming a potential candidate for Taiwan's ruling party. The founder of Forward Alliance (壯闊台灣聯盟), a civic organization, made his intentions known after the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) discussed potential candidates Wednesday (Oct. 1). Wu emphasized society's need to move beyond current political divisions.
Wu questioned the need to finalize nominations by year-end, citing more than a year remaining before elections. He argued Taipei's circumstances allow for unhurried candidate selection processes. DPP spokesperson Justin Wu (吳崢) confirmed the party has reviewed potential candidates across districts and will announce a formal period for interested individuals to declare intentions.
Wu emphasized ongoing recovery efforts in Hualien, Taiwan's eastern county, where Forward Alliance volunteers participate in reconstruction work. He advocated for enhanced infrastructure restoration, resident mental health support, and improved disaster preparedness measures. The civic leader stressed the importance of preventing similar incidents through better emergency planning and community resilience building. ◼
