TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislative Yuan (立法院) President Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) met with Japanese Democratic Party for the People (國民民主黨) representative Yuichiro Tamaki (玉木雄一郎) in Japan Friday (Sept. 26). The cross-party delegation emphasized strengthening bilateral parliamentary exchanges between Taiwan's legislature and Japan's National Diet. The meeting underscored Taiwan-Japan cooperation amid growing regional diplomatic ties.
Tamaki praised Han's reception of his party's Youth Division director during a July Taiwan visit and called for deeper bilateral cooperation in disaster prevention. The Japanese politician specifically referenced recent flooding in Hualien's Guangfu Township, demonstrating Japan's concern for Taiwan's natural disasters. Han expressed appreciation for Japan's support and reaffirmed Taiwan's parliament's commitment to strengthening exchanges.
Han congratulated the Democratic Party for the People on its electoral gains in Japan's House of Representatives last year and House of Councillors this year. The Legislative Yuan president cited Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (日本台灣交流協會) polling data showing strong mutual affinity between Taiwanese and Japanese citizens. Han emphasized the importance of nurturing these positive public sentiments through continued diplomatic engagement.
Han urged lawmakers to serve constituents with integrity while maintaining diplomatic flexibility, seeking closer ties between Taiwan's Legislative Yuan (立法院) and Japan's National Diet. The 40-minute meeting concluded with a group photograph commemorating the parliamentary exchange. The session reflected warming diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Japan's legislative bodies. ◼
