TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's opposition party delegation achieved a diplomatic milestone Thursday (Sept. 4) as Fu Kun-chi (傅崐萁), the Kuomintang caucus whip in the Legislative Yuan (立法院), Taiwan's parliament, led 27 KMT legislators to Japan's House of Representatives' First Members' Office Building. Japanese lawmakers warmly welcomed the delegation, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between Taiwan and Japan. The visit underscores growing parliamentary ties between the two nations despite complex regional dynamics.
Keiji Furuya (古屋圭司) and Minoru Kihara personally greeted the KMT delegation and expressed anticipation for Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu's (韓國瑜) visit to Japan later this month. Fu shared that he had visited the Japanese Parliament in 2002, highlighting his longstanding relationship with Japanese counterparts. The trip marked Lo Chih-chiang's (羅智強), who announced participation in the KMT Chairmanship election, first visit to Japan's parliament.
Han plans to lead another delegation to Tokyo from Sept. 25 to 29 to meet with Japanese lawmakers and visit the Osaka Expo. The visiting team includes several KMT legislators, such as Hung Meng-kai (洪孟楷), Wang Hung-wei (王鴻薇), Lin Pei-hsiang (林沛祥), Lee Yen-hsiu (李彥秀), and Chang Chih-lun (張智倫). Meanwhile, Chiang Chi-chen (江啟臣), the vice president of the Legislative Yuan, Taiwan's parliament, also leads a delegation in the Czech Republic to visit the National Palace Museum's exhibition. ◼
