TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Lin Jun-yi (林俊易) defeated Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in the BWF Super 750 China Masters round of 16 Thursday (Sept. 18). The 15th-ranked Taiwanese player secured his first victory against the 6th-ranked Indonesian with scores of 21-5, 22-20. Lin advanced to the quarterfinals, breaking a 0-3 losing streak against Christie in their head-to-head record.
Lin scored 12 consecutive points after trailing 1-2 in the opening game, leaving Christie unable to counter his dominant play. Both players remained tied frequently in the second game, but Lin turned the match around with two consecutive points from 19-20. Lin had advanced to the round of 16 after Malaysia's Lee Zii-jia (李梓嘉) withdrew due to injury during their third game.
Taiwan's men's doubles team Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) and Chiu Hsiang-chieh (邱相榤) fell in the round of 16. They lost to India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty with scores of 13-21, 12-21. The defeat marked their ninth exit at this tournament stage this season, continuing their struggles in major competitions. ◼
