TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a high-temperature advisory at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 9) for Taipei City, New Taipei City, Changhua County, and Pingtung County as a dangerous heat wave grips the island. The weather agency predicts temperatures will soar to 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F) for consecutive days across these metropolitan and agricultural regions. Health authorities are urging residents to take immediate precautions against potentially life-threatening heat exposure.
Keelung City, Yunlin County, and Tainan City received yellow alerts as temperatures are forecast to reach 33 degrees Celsius (91.4°F). The CWA issued urgent public health warnings, advising residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, labor, and exercise during peak heat hours. Officials emphasized the critical importance of using sunscreen and maintaining proper hydration to prevent potentially serious heat-related injuries and illnesses.
The Administration provided comprehensive indoor cooling guidance, recommending proper ventilation and suggesting practical methods including fans and ice packs for personal and environmental temperature control. Special protective measures are essential for high-risk populations including elderly residents, children, individuals with chronic illnesses, overweight citizens, people taking medications, and outdoor workers.
